FERA Board member Klemen Dvornik speaks on AI at the Sarajevo Film Festival

In the framework of the CineLink Industry Days, the industry section of the Sarajevo Film Festival, FERA Slovenian Board member Klemen Dvornik participated in a panel titled “Artificial Intelligence, Authors’ Rights & Guild Solidarity: Aligning Standards with the Needs of Europe’s Neighbours” on 21 August 2025.
The session gathered Society of Audiovisual Authors (SAA) Secretary General Cécile Despringre, producer Marta Krzeptowska, and of European Film Agencies Directors Association (EFAD) Secretary General Sevara Irgacheva. The discussion, moderated by Georg Szalai from The Hollywood Reporter, tackled the risks for creators and author’s rights posed by AI.
Speakers expressed their dissatisfaction with current EU legislative frameworks, noting that the AI Act and Code of Practice do not sufficiently protect authors’ rights. The discussion also addressed the difficulty of differentiating between AI-assisted and AI-generated works, the fear that mass-produced AI films could saturate the market, and the tension between opportunities offered by new technologies and the risks of undermining creators’ livelihoods.
FERA Board member Klemen Dvornik underlined both the opportunities and risks that AI brings to the film sector. He emphasized the need to ensure AI remains a tool that supports filmmakers rather than drives creative choices, cautioning against potential job losses and the erosion of collaborative filmmaking processes. He also raised economic concerns, warning that AI-generated content risks diverting funding away from traditional audiovisual works, challenging the sustainability of the European film industry.
